A six-year-old boy in Mobile, Alabama was hit by a car while saving his sister and is now being welcomed home from the hospital for his heroic act.

Kayden Reid saved his sister, Kaycee, from being hit by a car recently, but as a result, he ended up getting hit by the car.

He had to be briefly hospitalized, but has now recovered and received a hero's welcome by his local fire department upon arriving back home.

Kayla Giles, the children's mother, spoke to "Fox & Friends" on Monday morning with both children by her side and explained what happened.

"By the time everybody else saw [Kaycee] in the street, Kayden was right there … He ran right into the street to save her. But in the process of getting her out of the way, he got hit by the car," Giles said.

"We're just thankful that we have both kids [home and safe] today," Giles added.

Public Information Officer Steven Millhouse also spoke on the program about the boy's heroic efforts.

"He's definitely a hero," Millhouse said. "He's got the heart of a hero."

"But as a six-year-old young man, for Kayden to be able to recognize what was happening and to react the way he did … He's definitely a beacon for our future," Millhouse said.

Local firefighters gave Kayden a tour of one of their firetrucks, even letting him sit the driver's seat, Fox10 News reported.

"Thank you, everyone, for watching me," Kayden said to viewers at home.
