Annoyed by the speed, or lack thereof, of the U.S. Postal Service lately? You’re not alone. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be getting any better any time soon.
In fact, it is likely to get worse.
USPS spokeswoman Kim Frum told USA Today that the mail-delivery service will “implement new service standards for First Class Mail and Periodicals.”
At this point, you’re asking, “Well what does that mean?”
Frum explained that “most first class mail (61%) and periodicals (93%) will be unaffected,” specifying that single-piece first-class mail will still have a two-day delivery time if it is traveling within the same region. However, long-distance mailings will see an increased delivery time.
First-class packages though will see a delay beginning on Friday as part of a 10-year plan devised by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. The plan has been widely jeered since its announcement in March.
