New Orleans Saints cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson just punched back on Instagram.
After being sucker-punched twice in the helmet by Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims in Sunday’s Saints-Bears game, the New Orleans cornerback took a slightly sexist jab at Wims in response to the bizarre incident.
“That man punch like a female,” he wrote on his Instagram story with a laughing face emoji.
Gardner-Johnson is indeed getting the last laugh out of the incident.
The 26-year-old Bears receiver was immediately ejected from the game as he walked off the field clapping. He likely faces further discipline from the NFL, with a decision that could come as soon as Monday.
The incident apparently stemmed from Wims taking issue with Gardner-Johnson ripping his mouthpiece out and throwing it to the ground earlier in the game.
“We talked to him and told him that’s not how things go her,” Bears head coach Matt Nagy said of Wims after the game.
The punch left everyone bewildered, including Gardner-Johnson, who seemingly had no idea what was going on and shockingly did not react until the second punch was thrown, which led to a scrum between both teams and Saints teammate Janoris Jenkins pulling Wims off of Gardner-Johnson.
The Saints won the game in overtime, 26-23, to improve to 5-2 while the loss dropped the Bears to 5-3.
