The Louisiana Department of Health is reporting increases in coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths that we have not seen in months.
Officials today said there have been 3,985 new cases since Friday, with another 13 COVID deaths and hospitalizations leaping to more than 700 again.
Today's total of 711 patients is up dramatically from the 259 COVID hospitalizations reported on July first.
With rare exception; the new cases, deaths and hospitalizations are among people who are not vaccinated.
The Louisiana Department of Health is reporting 26,870 more vaccinations administered since last week's update.
That means the state has now administered 3,407,099 doses, including 1,686,533 completed series.
That is still among the worst in the nation in terms of percentages.
As of today, only 36.3% of Louisiana residents are fully vaccinated with less than 40% (39.8%) having at least started the vaccination process.
The city of New Orleans' NOLAReady reports COVID cases have increased 9x in the last two weeks due to the Delta variant, with 315 confirmed cases since Friday in New Orleans.
