Based out of Texas and founded in 1982, the convenience store and fueling station franchise has spread across the southern U.S. with franchise locations up and running in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The company was already expanding into Colorado, Mississippi and Missouri with additional Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee locations planned when they announced they would also move into Ruston, La.

The planned travel center will take up 53,000 square feet and offer 120 gas pumps as well as the store’s well-known and popular plentiful selection of road snacks and clean restrooms.

The new traveler’s outpost will also create a minimum of 200 full-time jobs. The company will offer employees a starting pay of $16 an hour and full benefits including health insurance as well as three weeks of paid vacation per year and company-matching 401k benefits.

“This is a tremendous project,” Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker said in a statement. “We are so grateful that Buc-ee’s has decided to locate its first travel center in the state here in Ruston. The capital investment is huge and the 200+ jobs being created are extraordinary for the citizens of Ruston.

“We are excited to welcome Buc-ee’s to our community and look forward to their success,” Walker added. “This project has been in the works for several years and would not be possible without our wonderful City Council members.”

Additionally, the city’s economic development director Jade West called the new business venture a “huge win for Ruston and all of North Louisiana.”

Construction on the travel center is set to begin later this year with a targeted opening in 2025.
