Louisiana hit a milestone with COVID vaccinations in today's report from the Louisiana Department of Health. With 2,347,621 having received at least one shot, at least 50 percent of the state has started their vaccinations, based on 2020 Census data (50.4 percent).

2,042,308 Louisianans have completed their COVID vaccine series. That accounts for 43.8 percent of the state.

That does not mean all of those people are considered fully vaccinated, yet. Immunologists say it takes about two weeks after receiving the final shot, whether it is the second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or the single Johnson & Johnson shot, for the vaccine to take full effect and provide the best protection against becoming infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
