Emergency managers say the Louisiana National Guard today will start setting up "PoDs," or Points of Distribution, for people to pick up water, food, and ice.

"We have the commodities here on hand," Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Jim Wascom told WWL's Tommy Tucker. "We have food, water, tarps."

Wascom said the National Guard would start sending all that out from their Roseland distribution center. "There's a number of those they'll be setting up today."

Wascom said people should pay attention to WWL and other local broadcasters for information on when they open and where they are.

He also pointed out that local leaders in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish are asking evacuees not to return yet, and these supplies should be distributed to the people who stayed.
