The Louisiana Department of Health reports a single-day record number of COVID cases at 14,077. The state is now averaging five-digit numbers of new cases for the last week with positivity rates over 20%.

The Governor sounded the alarm at an afternoon press conference, but continued to shy away from implementing the mask mandate.

“I suspect just about everybody in the state now either has had COVID, has it today, or knows somebody who does,” said Edwards at an afternoon press conference. “There has never been more of the disease in our state, transmission have never been higher, percent positivity never higher than it is right now.”

Louisiana is likely to breach the 900,000 confirmed positive cases since the start of the pandemic tomorrow.

Hospitalizations continue to rise, now up to 1,412, the highest since mid-September.
