Newell: Biden, rogue DAs are realizing their policies actually cause crime

President Biden met recently with high ranking elected leaders in New York City to address crime. Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams are pro-law enforcement - but meanwhile, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has stated he’s just outright unwilling to do a whole host of things as DA - does that sound familiar?

On my show, we talk a lot about what's going on in New York, Seattle and San Francisco because offers a glimpse of what’s coming next right here in New Orleans. District Attorney Jason Williams is now backtracking on a lot of the promises he made to not prosecute, or to settle on weaker charges for offenders. I spoke with Cully Stimson of the Heritage Foundation about these rogue district attorneys across the country who are realizing that their idea to ignore crime is only breeding more of it - and citizens are fed up.

The President recognizes that there's a huge political liability for his administration relative to crime that’s running rampant in most Democrat-controlled cities. Did they accomplish anything with their visit to New York?

No, because the problem for any mayor is that they don’t have much to do with fighting crime. Alvin Bragg isn’t going to prosecute people who commit crime unless he is pressured to - and that’s where the problem lies.

Biden had a real difficult time when given the opportunity to really stand behind law enforcement. There was not much said in that regard, was there?

When prosecutors like George Gascón in Los Angeles, Marilyn Mosby in Baltimore and so many other district attorneys take these pro-criminal, anti-victim approaches and refuse to prosecute entire categories of  law, this gives the police no incentive to arrest people who commit crimes, it demoralizes them and  puts them in the crosshairs of the criminal element. This is a big problem, and the President blew the opportunity because his party is not interested in enforcing criminal law or standing behind the police.

What really confounds me is these DAs are refusing to prosecute resisting arrest, and even battery on a police officer!

This is the George Soros funded movement that has installed and bought district attorneys in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and St. Louis. Biden could tell all these progressive prosecutors to stop their war on police, but he won't, because it's tied to a larger money machine on the left that installs people at the local, state, and federal level.

Why do these rogue DAs insist prosecutions negatively impact criminals, as opposed to the victims of crime?

They think if they don’t prosecute certain crimes, the crime will go away. What’s happening is that more people are committing crime. Their Achilles heel is the rising crime rates we’re seeing and they can’t ignore it. The irony is the consequences of these policies are harming the very people they pretend to care the most about - the inner city, black and brown people, poor people in minority districts. They're the ones pushing back on these rogue policies.
