The Louisiana Department of Health today said it welcomes the CDC's approval of COVID shots for everyone 6 months and older.

"The Department fully trusts the highly demanding, rigorous scientific review that led to this decision," LDH said in a news release. "LDH will review the data and the CDC recommendations and issue guidance to the public and our providers on Monday."

Health officials say in the meantime, it is not too soon for parents to start talking to their children's doctors about the vaccine to seek answers to any questions they may have.

There are around 18 million children ages 6 months through four years in the U.S., who have had to wait while older siblings and parents have been able to get the vaccine. Children ages 12-15 have been able to get shots since last summer, and the FDA and CDC granted emergency use authorization for children ages 5 and up in November.

The FDA and CDC approved a three shot regimen of the Pfizer vaccine, and a two-shot version of Moderna COVID vaccine, for children 6 months through 4 years.
