Hospitals in Louisiana are “days away” from having to turn people away, according to Dr. Charles Burnell, chief medical officer at Acadian Ambulance.

Burnell told David Begnaud of CBS News that paramedics have already begun treating patients in their homes if they feel they would not benefit from care in crowded hospitals.

“We haven't had to refuse anyone transport yet,” Burnell said. “We are days away from that happening right now.
Less than a week.”

Begnaud tweeted out his full conversation with Burnell.

Sunday saw the number of hospitalizations statewide climb to 2,956 as the case rate swelled to 13,239 and 65 more deaths were reported.

According to the Louisiana Health Department, over 90% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated patients.
