Tropical Storm Nicholas' top wind speeds have picked up as it draws closer to the Texas coast.
As of 4 pm, Nicholas had maximum winds of 65 miles per hour. The storm could reach hurricane strength before it makes landfall early tomorrow.
"Once that circulation gets on land, we will see it weakening and then moving in our direction," said WWL-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin.
"This is going to be more of a rain event for us," he said. "Tuesday and Wednesday looking potentially heavy with a risk of some flooding."
