NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Black Lives Matter mural in front of Trump Tower was vandalized Monday around lunchtime, the NYPD confirmed to 1010 WINS.
And in a video obtained by 1010 WINS, a male is seen approaching the mural with a brown paper bag. As he approaches, he takes out of the bag a bucket of red paint, that he tosses onto the massive yellow letters. He then scurries off toward 57th Street on Fifth Avenue.
Police said at around 12:13 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call of an unknown individual throwing red paint on the mural.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
But Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted a message to the culprit later in the afternoon: "To whoever vandalized our mural on 5th Avenue: nice try. @NYC_DOT has already fixed it," he tweeted. "The #BlackLivesMatter movement is more than words, and it can’t be undone."
Work on the mural, which President Trump has called a "symbol of hate," began last week.
