VIDEO: 2 rescued after 1 drives truck into LI Sound while doing 'donuts' during storm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Firefighters in Connecticut rescued a man and a woman from a truck after the woman drove the vehicle into the Long Island Sound while doing donuts in a parking lot during Monday's snowstorm, according to authorities and a report.

Stamford firefighters found a four-door pick-up truck partially submerged in the waters off of Cummings Park around 2:10 p.m. on Monday, the Stamford Fire Department said in a release.

A woman standing in the truck’s rear cargo area shouted that a man was trapped inside the truck, the department said.

Firefighters wearing cold water rescue suits jumped into the water amid “extreme winds” and snowfall and managed to rescue the two, according to the department.

The man was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment after he was rescued, the department said.

The woman, identified by police as 37-year-old Ashley Lionetti, refused medical attention at the scene, according to the department and an ABC7 report.

Police said Lionetti was doing donuts in a parking lot when she lost control of the truck and drove off a retaining wall into the water, ABC7 reported.

Lionetti was charged with reckless operation after the incident, according to the outlet. Her attorney information wasn’t immediately available Tuesday.
