Conn. reports 113 new COVID-19 deaths over 4 days; hospitalizations remain 'stable'
HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut reported 113 new COVID-19-related fatalities over the holiday weekend, but hospitalizations remained "pretty stable," Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday.
The 113 new virus-related fatalities reported on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday brought the state's death toll to 5,904, Lamont said at a news briefing.
As of Sunday night, 1,219 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, up by 19 from Wednesday night, he said.
Of the 139,889 COVID-19 test results that came back over the four days, 8,457, or 6.05 percent, were positive, he added, calling that number "stable."
"This is now a couple of days post-Christmas, and that's a good sign," he said. "We're watching it like a hawk."
Lamont also said at least 36,276 people in Connecticut had received the first doses of their COVID-19 vaccines as of Monday, while noting that "the actual number who've received it so far is actually higher, as facilities are still reporting their data to the state."
"All of the doses under this first phase of Connecticut's vaccine program are being administered to people in the healthcare workforce, and residents/staff of long-term care facilities," he said.
"We're estimating two-thirds of our nursing homes will have completed their first dose by the end of this week," he added.
