Connecticut reports two-day decline in hospitalizations, 35 new COVID-19 deaths

HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- The number of Connecticut residents hospitalized with COVID-19 declined for the second day in a row on Thursday, but the state reported more than 30 new deaths, Gov. Ned Lamont said Friday.

As of Thursday night, hospitals across Connecticut were treating 1,150 COVID-19 patients, down by 41 from Wednesday, Lamont tweeted.

Of the 27,840 COVID-19 test results that came back in the state on Thursday, 1,538, or 5.52 percent, were positive, he said.

The state also reported 35 new COVID-19-related fatalities, bringing its death toll to 5,146.

While hospitalizations also dropped between Tuesday and Wednesday, Lamont on Thursday warned residents not to let their guards down based on a "one-day number."

Lamont on Friday also signed an executive order allowing Connecticut workers who did not previously qualify for the federal government's "Lost Wages Assistance" program to receive unemployment benefits.

"This extra $100 weekly benefit will help get funds in the hands of residents who need it and into our economy," he wrote on Twitter. "With this change, those who previously were ineligible will now receive more than $2,000 that they can use to support their families."
