FREEPORT, N.Y. — A Long Island man died in May after he was run over twice in a parking lot and five months later, his family said there is still no justice.
The Schier family had plans on May 22 to host a backyard BBQ, which would have been their first family gathering since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. However, 71-year-old Stephen Schier would never get the chance to make it to the event.

The day of the BBQ, Schier – a retired educator – was run over in a Freeport pharmacy parking lot, not far from his home.
“All I am looking for is justice,” said Schier’s brother, Larry.
He noted that surveillance video from the scene showed an SUV backing into Schier, running him over. The same vehicle then pulled forward again, running him over a second time.

Schier’s ribs and several limbs were broken, and he was immediately hospitalized. Though, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Larry told WCBS 880 that he thinks it is ridiculous that the driver of the vehicle has suffered no repercussions for her actions.
“When you go five miles over the speed limit, you get pulled over you get a ticket. This woman has gotten nothing! Nothing done to her,” he said.
A spokesperson for the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said they are investigating what happened with the 55-year-old driver and said they regret how much time it is taking.
Meanwhile, Larry said the case should already be closed.
“I don't see why it takes months and months when you see a video [of] what this woman did,” he said.
An attorney for the family is calling for a grand jury to look into the case.
