LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Firefighters battled to contain a massive wildfire burning overnight in a state park in New Jersey, officials said.
According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, the blaze in Little Egg Harbor Township was first spotted on Sunday at approximately 4 p.m. from the forest fire service's Bass River Fire Tower.
By 11:30 p.m., the flames had grown to about 70 acres and the fire was still not under control as of early Monday morning.
Officials shut down Route 9 late Sunday night due to prevalent smoke.
