NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Two children were found safe after the vehicle they were in was stolen Tuesday afternoon in Newark, according to police.
At around 4:20 p.m. a carjacker took the SUV parked near a Wells Fargo bank located at 400 Bloomfield Avenue, according to Newark Public Safety Director Brian O'Hara.
The children - ages 11 and 9 - were sitting in the vehicle when it was stolen, officials said.
Police said the suspect then ran away from the car.
Authorities found the SUV with the children inside near Abington and North 6th Streets just blocks away from where it was stolen, O'Hara said.
The children were not injured.
