1 former, 2 current NYPD officers charged in towing scheme: report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — One former and two current NYPD officers have been charged in connection with a scheme that involved directing towing jobs to one company in exchange for bribes, according to a report.

Former NYPD officer Michael Perri, of Bayside, and current NYPD officers Giancarlo Soma and James Davneiro, of Deer Park and Bayside, respectively, were arrested by the FBI and NYPD Internal Affairs, NBC New York reported Friday, citing law enforcement sources.

Perri is accused of bribing Soma and Davneiro to send NYPD towing jobs to the company he worked for after he left the department, the outlet reported.

Members of the NYPD are supposed to use the department's "Directed Accident Response Program" to randomly select companies for towing jobs.

The NYPD couldn't immediately provide any additional information about the arrests.
