NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Eight people, including three firefighters, were injured in a fire at an Upper East Side apartment Wednesday afternoon, according to FDNY officials.
At about 12:33 p.m., the FDNY responded to the flames on the fifth floor of a building located at 409 East 81st St., authoriites said.
Three firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Five civilians were also injured. Four suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
One civilian sustained a critical injury and was rushed to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
FDNY crews worked quickly to contain the blaze, which was officially brought under control at 1:22 p.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshal.
