VIDEO: Attacker follows Asian-American man, shoves him into UES storefront

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An attacker followed an Asian-American man down an Upper East Side sidewalk before shoving him into a glass storefront window in broad daylight on Monday, surveillance footage shows.

The man was walking near East 72nd Street and Lexington Avenue on Monday afternoon when the attacker began following him, surveillance footage obtained by ABC7 shows.

The man tried to evade the attacker — going so far as to walk off the sidewalk and into the street — but the attacker continued to trail him before shoving him into a store window, the video shows.

After the attacker shoved the man, he kept trying to follow him. Bystanders, however, began to intervene, the footage shows.

The attacker continued to pace up and down the sidewalk after the assault, screaming, "Get out of my face" and "I'm gonna kill somebody," cellphone video taken by a passerby shows.

The attacker also "yelled about Chinese people, Spanish people and white people before asking [a female bystander] if she wanted him to kill her," ABC7 reported.

Fifty-four anti-Asian hate crimes had been reported in New York City as of Monday, up from 12 all of last year, according to the outlet.

The attacker hadn't been arrested as of Tuesday, the outlet reported. An investigation is ongoing.
