Cuomo: 1 in 4 New Yorkers fully vaccinated against COVID-19

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- More than a quarter of New York state residents, or more than 5 million people, are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, 25.5 percent of New Yorkers, or 5,085,215 residents, were fully vaccinated, Cuomo said in a press release.

Nearly 40 percent, meanwhile, or 7,705,087 New Yorkers, had gotten at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, he said.

Vaccination sites across the state administered nearly 1.6 million doses within the past week, a "new record high," the release noted.

"Our providers across the state are working away to get more shots into people's arms, and we are continuing to work with community leaders and local organizations to ensure the vaccine distribution is equitable," Cuomo said in a statement.

"While there is a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, I want to assure all New Yorkers that their appointments will still be honored with one of the other vaccines and will proceed as scheduled," he added. "We are not slowing down because that was never an option in the first place."
