Ex-NYPD cop files suit claiming she was raped by colleagues
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A former NYPD officer has hit the department with a lawsuit claiming she was raped, sodomized and harassed by other officers during her time on the force, according to a report.
Maria Mendez, who worked for the NYPD for 14 years before resigning at the beginning of 2019, filed the suit in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday, the New York Post reported.
Mendez' suit claims she was raped by two NYPD officers and an NYPD detective while she was working for the department, the outlet reported.
Mendez was also "regularly forced to ingest oxycodone, ecstasy and alcohol," the suit claims, according to the outlet.
The lawsuit claims NYPD members shared photos and videos of Mendez' rapes and assaults in a group chat, the outlet reported.
Several NYPD members also sexually harassed Mendez, the lawsuit alleges, according to the outlet.
The NYPD didn't respond to the outlet's request for comment on the lawsuit.
A spokesperson for the New York City Law Department declined to comment "before all the facts were in," adding that the department needed "a chance to review the suit."
