NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An FDNY firefighter died after he got into a snowmobile crash in upstate New York on Thursday, according to a report.
The off-duty firefighter, 35-year-old Carmine Barresi, was snowmobiling on Lake George around 4 p.m. on Thursday when he crashed into a dock, the Daily News reported.
The impact threw Barresi from his snowmobile into the lake, where he plunged through ice and ended up submerged for around 30 minutes, the outlet reported.
The firefighter was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to the outlet. Barresi became an FDNY firefighter in 2017, the outlet reported.
FDNY Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro called his death “a terrible loss for the FDNY family.”
“Carmine bravely served the residents of the Bronx as a member of Engine Company 64, fighting fires and providing emergency medical care,” he said in a statement provided to the outlet.
“Our thoughts are with his family and the members of his company,” he added.
