NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A knife-wielding thief stole a woman’s cell phone after he tried to pull her purse off of her shoulder in Queens, surveillance video shows.
The 29-year-old woman was walking in front of a building near Reeder Street and Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst around 9 p.m. on Monday when a man approached her, pulled out a knife and tried to grab her purse, the NYPD said Thursday.
The woman managed to pull her purse away from the man, but dropped her cell phone in the process, police said.
The man then grabbed her phone and ran north on Reeder Street, the NYPD said.
The 29-year-old man the woman was walking with tried to chase down the thief, but lost sign of him, police said.
Police are now searching for the thief, who was last seen wearing a multicolored face mask, a black and orange Puma sweatshirt, black pants and brown boots.
