Man, 24, arrested in the Bronx after stealing CBS News van in Manhattan, striking taxi
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police arrested a 24-year-old man accused of stole a WCBS News weather van in Manhattan and then taking it for a ride to the Bronx and even crashing into a taxi cab along the way.
Officials got a call from the van operator at around 4 p.m. who reported the vehicle stolen from West 50th Street and 11th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen after the key had been left in the ignition.
According to the NYPD, the suspect fled east, striking a taxi cab on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.
The suspect then drove uptown, where NYPD helicopters spotted him, police said.
Authorities were able to stop the suspect on East 138th Street in the Bronx where he was taken into custody, according to the police.
Charges against him are pending and an investigation is ongoing.
