Man stabs tourist with screwdriver on Manhattan subway train: police
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A straphanger stabbed a tourist from Ecuador with a screwdriver on a subway train in lower Manhattan Sunday night, the NYPD and police sources said.
The 43-year-old man was riding a southbound 2 train toward the Chambers Street station in Tribeca around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday when a 26-year-old man stabbed him in the chest and left arm with a screwdriver, police said.
The 43-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel in critical but stable condition, the NYPD said.
The 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police sources told 1010 WINS the victim was a tourist from Ecuador. The New York Post reported that the assault was a random attack.
An investigation is ongoing.
