Mercedes strikes Queens crossing guard, crashes into tree: officials

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating after a crossing guard at work was struck by a Mercedes in Queens Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Just before 3 p.m., the 63-year-old woman was escorting children from Our Lady of Hope Academy across Eliot Avenue by 71st Street in Maspeth when she was struck from behind.

The guard was transported to an area hospital in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

An investigation remains ongoing.
