Naked man electrocuted by third rail during fight at Harlem subway station: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A naked man died after he got into a fight with people in a Harlem subway station, jumped down onto the tracks and was electrocuted by the 625-volt third rail, police said.

It started with the naked, emotionally disturbed man trying to dance with passengers who were waiting in the 2/3 line 110 Street-Central Park North station around 4 p.m. on Saturday.

He then pushed one of those people, a man, onto the tracks, video shows. An approaching train managed to stop in time.

A good Samaritan jumped off the platform to help and the naked man went after the good Samaritan, who fought back and hit the naked man, according to police.

The naked man fell onto the third rail and was electrocuted, police said. He has not been identified.

"This naked guy just jumps onto the tracks and starts attacking the guy who was trying to help the other gentleman," a witness said. "And they're close to the third rail, and I'm yelling, 'Hey, watch out for the third rail.' You know, it's very close. And at that point, they start kind of tussling a little bit, and the guy falls and he's getting electrocuted."

The man who was pushed and the good Samaritan were taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries.

No one has been charged in the incident, police said.
