NY to adopt CDC's mask, social distancing guidance; NYC marathon returning: Cuomo

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced multiple reopenings happening across New York City as the state is set to adopt the CDC's new mask and social distancing guidance for vaccinated people.

"How do you reopen New York? It's not that simple, it's not a switch," Cuomo said. "That's what you see coming back to life today."

The CDC announced last week that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing with the exception of exception of special circumstances.

The CDC's new mask guidance will be effective Wednesday, the governor said.

"This is an exciting moment, it has been a dark, dark hellish year," Cuomo said.

According to the governor, the New York City Marathon will return this year on November 7 at 60 percent capacity with 33,000 runners.

Registration opens June 8 and there will be health and safety guidelines that will be in place, and subject to change as race day approaches.

The Tribeca Film Festival is also set to open at Pier 76 Park on June 9 with a showing of Lin Manuel Miranda's "In The Heights."

Its June 19 closing night will also feature a red carpet performance at Radio City Music Hall at full capacity, with a 100 percent vaccinated, mask-free audience.

James Dolan, CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainment joined the conference and announced that there will be 13,000 "shoulder to shoulder" Knicks fans in vaccinated sections allowed at Madison Square Garden.

"We're back and we're in the playoffs and it couldn't come at a better time for New York," Dolan said.

According to Dolan, those that are vaccinated will get seating preference.

Additionally, a concert series at Radio City will be announced later today, Cuomo added.
