Off-duty correction officer arrested for Harlem brawl, 2012 'spitting incident': report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police officers arrested an off-duty correction officer for getting into a fight in Harlem after discovering there was a warrant out for his arrest in connection with a "spitting incident," according to a report.

Clifton Brooks, 37, was taken into custody after he got into a brawl with another person inside an apartment building near East 138th Street and Fifth Avenue around noon on Tuesday, the New York Post reported.

The arresting officers initially planned to slap Brooks with a desk appearance ticket for the fight — which left the person with whom he was fighting with a cut on the ear — but ended up arresting him because of the 2012 warrant, the outlet reported.

The outlet didn't provide any additional details about the "spitting incident."

Brooks was charged with assault, according to the outlet. His attorney information wasn't immediately available Wednesday.
