WATCH: 'One last chance' to stop second wave, de Blasio says
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday announced that an increase of new reported COVID-19 cases has become "very worrisome."
According to de Blasio, a second wave of coronavirus "is getting dangerously close" with growth rates rising again and test positivity rate "well past the threshold" for case numbers set.
The city has "one last chance" to avoid another wave, de Blasio said.
City health officials also suggested safer holiday activities such as admiring decorations from afar, and urged residents to stick to the Core Four: Stay home, stay apart, wear a face covering, keep hands clean, get tested.
Officials also urged for religious services to go virtual or outside and keep gatherings small and local.
"The best solution is not to travel," de Blasio said. "If you don't need to travel, if you can avoid travel," that's ideal.
The mayor also reminded New Yorkers that they can "test out" of mandatory 14-day quarantine by testing days before leaving the location they traveled to and then testing after traveling.
