NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Queens judge tossed hundreds of prostitution-related cases on Tuesday after the borough's district attorney requested they be dismissed, according to a report.

Justice Toko Serita threw out and sealed "more than 670" cases on Tuesday, including some related to the "Walking While Trans" law New York state repealed in February, the New York Post reported.

"We have seen first-hand the damaging effects of these laws on the lives of women and transgender individuals, many of whom have been victims of trafficking and severely exploited," Serita said, according to the outlet.

"This is an incredibly emotional moment for me," the judge added.

At the virtual hearing during which Serita tossed the cases, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said the "Walking While Trans" law "punished members of our community for their gender and appearance," the outlet reported.

"[The law] adversely impacted members of our community who were in many instances already victimized and already exploited," she added.

In a statement released in February, State Sen. Brad Hoylman, who sponsored legislation to repeal the law, said the policy — which dated back to 1976 — "provided law enforcement with broad powers to stop any individual for a vague loitering offense."

"This outdated, discriminatory statute has led to hundreds of unnecessary arrests of transgender women of color and a broader culture of fear and intimidation for transgender and gender nonconforming New Yorkers," he added.
