FDNY paramedic gets four stitches after teen girl on drugs bites her face in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A teenage girl in a drug-induced "altered mental state" bit an FDNY paramedic's face in Brooklyn early Friday morning, leaving her with a wound that required four stitches, according to a report.

The 28-year-old paramedic and other responders were called to a home on Haring Street, near Emmons Avenue, in Sheepshead Bay around 2 a.m. on Friday to evaluate the girl, the Daily News reported.

When the girl tried to run from the responders by jumping up and down a set of stairs inside the home, the paramedic "caught her," at which point the girl bit her face, the outlet reported.

First responders sedated the girl before transporting her to a nearby hospital, according to the outlet. Health care workers there determined she had taken drugs, but it wasn't immediately clear what kind, the outlet reported.

The paramedic was also taken to a nearby hospital, where she received four stitches, according to the outlet.

In a statement, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro called the paramedic's injuries "horrific."

"No one should be attacked when they are at work, and certainly not EMTs and paramedics who respond to every incident with one mission — to save lives," he said.
