NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Even on a holiday, Mayor Bill de Blasio couldn’t avoid jeers from New Yorkers.

Attendees of Monday’s Columbus Day Parade let the mayor hear it as he returned to the event.
The shouts were laden with expletives for the outgoing mayor — some were just F-bombs, while one woman even shouted “Drop dead in your bed,” according to the Daily News.
The Columbus Citizens Foundation had declined to invite the mayor to participate in last year’s virtual event after the parade was canceled over the coronavirus, but was welcomed back for 2021.
Relations were strained between de Blasio and Italian Americans at the time after the mayor failed to include Mother Frances Cabrini on a list of women to be honored with statues across the city.
He’s also caused more strain with the community after the changing of Columbus Day on the public school calendar to Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa was among those reveling in the boos for de Blasio.
More than 100 groups and an estimated 35,000 people took part in the parade.
