NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Mayor Bill de Blasio's family joined iconic funk musician George Clinton to sing “One City Under A Groove” at City Hall on Thursday.
Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars will perform at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on Friday for one of the city’s “Homecoming Week” concerts that mark the five boroughs' comeback from the coronavirus pandemic.
Clinton was at de Blasio’s daily press conference, where the mayor's family accompanied him in the rendition of Funkadelic’s 1978 song, “One Nation Under A Groove,” reworked as “One City Under A Groove.”

“The first time I heard ‘One Nation Under A Groove,’ it was literally just one of those life-changing songs,” de Blasio said. “It was everywhere in my high school—we felt it. It was a message of unity and hope, but it was also a new kind of sound, and everyone sensed something in the air, something special.”
De Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, and his son, Dante, took part in the singalong.
“One city under a groove, getting down just for the funk of it. One city and we’re on the move, nothing can stop us now,” the four sang a cappella.
“Beautiful!” de Blasio said after the performance.
