VIDEO: NYPD precinct drenched when sprinkler accidentally set off
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Brooklyn police precinct was drenched in water when a cop reportedly set off its sprinkler system accidentally.
The sprinkler shower soaked the Police Department's 72 Precinct in Sunset Park when a cop accidentally hit the sprinkler as he tossed a set of keys to someone else inside, the New York Post reported.
"Um, wait, how long has this been going on?" a woman can be heard asking in the clip, obtained by the Post. "That is a lot of water."
The footage shows the sprinkler soaking a hallway with a garbage pail and mop placed right below it in a futile attempt to catch the water.
A spokesperson for the department told the outlet the incident only caused "minimal damage to the desk area" of the precinct.
"This is a complete accident," the spokesperson told the Post. "A member of the service tossed keys to another member when it accidentally struck a sprinkler head, causing the single sprinkler to go off."
