NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A member of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s staff was hit with a brick in a random attack in Manhattan, according to police and reports.

A 51-year-old woman was walking near East 48th Street and Third Avenue in Turtle Bay around 2 p.m. Thursday when a man approached her from behind and hit her in the head with a brick, police said.

Police described the attack as unprovoked.

Sources told the Daily News and other outlets that the victim was Cuomo staffer Lisa Cavanaugh and that the attack occurred just blocks away from the governor's office in Manhattan.

The victim suffered lacerations to the back of her head and was treated at Bellevue Hospital.

A suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Christopher Guzman of Manhattan, was arrested and charged with assault, police said early Friday.
