Construction worker dies after excavator topples into frigid NJ waters
LINDEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A construction worker died Thursday morning after the excavator he was in toppled into a water channel in New Jersey.
The excavator was near the water when it flipped into Arthur Kill in an industrial part of Linden at Tremley Point Road around 8 a.m., WABC reported.
The excavator was submerged in about 6 feet of water, believed to be below 40 degrees, for over an hour, according to the report.
An NYPD Aviation dive team pulled the worker from the excavator with the help of the Linden Fire Department.
He was rushed to Trinitas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to fire and police officials.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will lead an investigation into the incident, according to Linden Police Lt. Christopher Guenther.
