NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang on Wednesday called for more actions to be taken to end anti-Asian hate crimes amid the recent uptick in attacks.

“Some of these incidents were not treated as hate crimes and that’s not acceptable,” Yang said. “The people in the Asian American community know that we are being targeted and we need our leaders to step up and recognize the same.”

Yang spoke with reporters in Times Square to about the shootings and other string of attacks against Asian-Americans.

"This is a devastating and heartbreaking day around the country, particularly for Asian Americans," Yang said as he expressed his condolences to the families of the Georgia massage parlor shooting victims

"It's heartbreaking because you think about these women, their lives, their hopes, their dreams, their children, their families who will never see them again and why," he added.

“These women did not deserve to be targeted like this and have their lives taken away,” Yang said.
