What you need to know about the new 'Ted Lasso' season

Fans of the Apple TV+ hit “Ted Lasso thought they were saying goodbye to the show in 2023. However, its star, Jason Sudeikis, and Apple confirmed that the show will be back for a fourth season.

“We’re writing season 4 now,” said Sudeikis on an episode of the New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce podcast released Friday. “Ted’s coaching… yeah… a women’s team.”

A Facebook post from Apple TV+ showed a blue seat with the show’s name on it and a simple caption: “Season 4.”

According to a press release from the streaming service, the Emmy-winning show is officially returning for a fourth season. It also confirmed that Sudeikis is returning in the title role, coach Ted Lasso.

Over first three seasons viewers watched Lasso, an American football coach, settle in London to manage AFC Richmond, a struggling soccer team. Lasso’s enthusiasm and positivity help him get over challenges in this fish-out-of-water situation.

It quickly became a success with both fans and critics. Apple TV+ noted that the first season of the show became the most Emmy-nominated comedy and that it won “rare back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys for its first two seasons on air.”

For its fourth season, Emmy Award winner Jack Burditt – known for “Nobody Wants This”, “Modern Family”, and 30 Rock – is joining the “Ted Lasso” team as executive producer, under a new overall deal with Apple TV+. In addition to starring in the new season, Sudeikis will also serve as an executive producer alongside Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee and Bill Wrubel.

“The series was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Kelly and Hunt, and is based on the preexisting format and characters from NBC Sports,” said Apple TV+.

Brett Goldstein will also serve as writer and executive producer alongside Leanne Bowen. The team also includes Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh as writers and producers, Sasha Garron as a co-producer, Julia Lindon as a writer and Dylan Marron as story editor. Bill Lawrence will executive produce via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also serve as executive producers.

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’” said star and executive producer Sudeikis, “in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, said that: “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show,” and remarked that the show manages to spread kindness and compassion all around the world. Two years ago, Audacy even reported on the show’s cast visiting the White House to raise awareness about mental health issues.
