NJ's COVID-19 death toll tops 17K as state reports 90 new fatalities: Murphy
TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey's COVID-19 death toll surpassed 17,000 on Thursday as the state reported more than 5,000 new positive test results, Gov. Phil Murphy said.
The state recorded 90 new COVID-19-related fatalities on Wednesday, bringing its death toll to 17,021, Murphy said on Twitter Thursday afternoon. Officials are also investigating 2,021 probable virus-related deaths.
The 5,107 positive COVID-19 test results New Jersey recorded on Wednesday, meanwhile, pushed the state's case total to 477,360, he said.
As of Wednesday night, hospitals across New Jersey were treating 3,716 confirmed or probable COVID-19 patients, 693 of whom were in intensive care and 462 of whom were on ventilators, the state's COVID-19 tracker shows.
"We urge everyone to stay safe," Murphy wrote. "Avoid large gatherings. Social distance. Mask up."
