Long Island woman who lost dad to COVID receives nasty letter about Christmas lights
BETHPAGE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – Neighbors are rallying behind a Long Island woman who received an anonymous letter telling her to take down her Christmas lights—weeks after she lost her father to COVID.
The letter sent to Sara Pascucci in Bethpage this past week read: "Take your Christmas lights down! Its Valentines Day!!!!!!"
Pascucci, 31, took to Facebook to explain why the lights were still up: her father and aunt died from COVID-19 over the holidays.
"Our entire family was sick with covid starting December 24. Within this timeframe we lost 2 family members," she wrote on the Long Island Moms Group.
Pascucci told the New York Post that she's not ready to dim the lights after her father's death in January. She said she remembers him always decorating right after Thanksgiving.
"He loved Christmas. He loved decorating. He did it for me and my brother when we were kids, and my son," Pascucci said.
"Under the circumstances that we've all been under, it was just not something we really wanted to deal with at the moment. We have a lot of other things we're dealing with," she said.
Residents, some of whom also got the letter, have since shown their support for Pascucci. Some even plan to lift her spirits by setting up a Christmas in February.
