NYC public schools to fully reopen in Sept. with 'no remote' option: de Blasio

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday announced that the city's public schools will fully reopen in the fall, with no remote learning option.

"It's good news," de Blasio said on MSNBC. "NYC public schools — one million kids — will be back in their classrooms in September."

"All in-person, no remote," he added.

At de Blasio's daily briefing, NYC Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter noted that most middle and high school students are now eligible for vaccines.

"The last 14 months put a stark spotlight on how nothing can replace the importance of the in-person educator, in class with his or her students," she said. "So we will welcome all of our teachers and staff members back in the fall."

"We would not be doing this if our schools were not safe," she added.
