WESTBURY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Nassau County police officer investigating a prior shoplifting case at a Target in Westbury on Sunday was attacked by a man attempting to steal again, according to police.

The officer was interviewing a worker about the prior shoplifting incident around 2:25 p.m. when they allegedly saw Keyshawn Major Blackman enter the Corporate Drive store, remove merchandise from the store shelves and attempt to flee without paying.

When the officer attempted to arrest the 21-year-old, police said "he refused to comply with verbal commands and was uncooperative." A fight broke out between the two, and Blackman's "violent" and "combative" resistance caused the officer to sustain injuries.

Eventually, the officer was able to place him under arrest.

The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Blackman, of Brooklyn, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree obstructing government administration and resisting arrest.

Police note he had previously been arrested on July 6 released without bail on charges of assault, strangulation, menacing and criminal contempt.
