ARRESTED: LI man charged in deadly 4th of July block party shooting

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shooting three people at a Fourth of July block party on Long Island, one of whom died, police said.

Michael Wright, of Roosevelt, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

Wright was at a block party on Hudson Avenue in Roosevelt around 7:30 p.m. on July 4 when he opened fire, according to police.

A 31-year-old Uniondale woman and two Hempstead men, ages 21 and 27, were struck by the bullets, police said.

The 27-year-old man, identified by police as Tavon Greenhill, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wright’s two other victims were treated for their wounds at nearby hospitals, according to police.

Wright is expected to appear in court on Wednesday, police said. His attorney information wasn’t immediately available.
