LI woman pleads guilty to trying to hire hitmen to kill ex-husband's mom, daughter

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island woman has pleaded guilty to trying to hire hitmen to kill her ex-husband's mother and daughter, prosecutors say.

Elsy Rodriguez-Garcia, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree conspiracy on Thursday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said Friday.

"This is a shocking and disturbing case," District Attorney Timothy Sini said in a statement. "Thankfully, law enforcement was notified and able to intervene before anyone got hurt, and today's guilty plea ensures she is held accountable."

Prosecutors say Rodriguez-Garcia messaged an accomplice on WhatsApp in July 2019, asking them to hire hitmen to murder her ex-husband's mother and daughter in Ecuador, as she thought they had traveled there.

The Huntington resident not only gave her accomplice photos of one of her ex-husband's family members, but also provided a description of the home in which she thought they were staying, according to prosecutors.

Rodriguez-Garcia told the accomplice she would wire the hitmen money once they had murdered the two, prosecutors said.

When her ex-husband learned about the plot, however, he reported it to Suffolk County police, the DA's office said.

Rodriguez-Garcia was arrested in connection with the plot not long after, and could be sentenced to two to six years in prison if she is convicted, prosecutors said.

Her attorney information wasn't immediately available Friday.
