NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Saratoga County man has contracted New York state's first known case of the new, more contagious COVID-19 strain originally detected in the United Kingdom, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.

The man in his 60s works at N. Fox Jewelers on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, Cuomo said in a teleconference. Anyone who shopped at the jewelry store between Dec. 18 and Dec. 24 should "contact us and get a test immediately," he said.

Three additional COVID-19 cases have been linked to the store, but it wasn't immediately clear if those three people also contracted the U.K. strain, he said.

"We're going through the employees of the jewelry store," he said. "As it was a retail establishment, we want the cooperation of the public."

The man has not traveled recently, and likely contracted the strain via community spread, he said. His symptoms were "not more severe, and he appears to be on the mend," the governor noted.
