NY sees lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since Dec. 1: Cuomo
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state reported its lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the beginning of December on Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.
As of Wednesday, hospitals across the state were treating 3,963 COVID-19 patients, marking the first time that figure has dropped below 4,000 since Dec. 1, Cuomo said in a press release.
Eight hundred and eighty-six of those patients were in intensive care and 559 were on ventilators, he said.
The state also reported 46 new COVID-19-related fatalities, bringing its death toll to 41,347.
Two of the New Yorkers who died lived in the Bronx; nine lived in Brooklyn; two lived in Manhattan; four lived in Nassau County; two lived in Orange County; nine lived in Queens; three lived in Rockland County; four lived in Suffolk County and two lived in Westchester County.
"New Yorkers are continuing to practice the right behaviors and follow the state's public health guidance, and they should be commended for that," Cuomo said in a statement.
"Even as we make progress vaccinating more New Yorkers every single day and hospitalizations drop to new lows, it's critical for us all to stay vigilant until the infection rate drops and we reach a higher level of immunity," he added.
